Mom Notices Her Baby Not Breathing at School Drop-Off. Watch Officer Run to Save Her Life (Exclusive)

A school resource officer jumped into action to save the day when a mom encountered a terrifying situation with her little girl.

In September 2022, a mom was dropping off one of her children at Three Oaks Elementary School in Fort Myers, Florida when she realized her daughter Cheyanne wasn’t breathing in the back seat. Fortunately, Deputy Williams Weaver, who was in charge of school resources that month, was nearby to take control of the situation.

“It was a normal day, I was outside watching parents and students leave when I saw the mother who looked like she was in trouble. At first I didn’t know what was wrong so I ran over to the mother,” said Deputy Weaver says TO PEOPLE. “She was distraught and holding her child saying he had stopped breathing and was turning blue.”

Deputy Weaver, whose heroic actions were caught on school surveillance footage, began performing back thrusts and chest compressions on the child.

“The infant had mucus in his throat,” Deputy Weaver explained. “It only took a few seconds to clear what was blocking her airway. I’ll never forget the look in my mother’s eyes, she went from panicked to happy tears. It felt amazing.”

“The mother was so grateful and cried tears of happiness when I returned her baby, who was crying and breathing,” he recalls.

Deputy Weaver says he knew what to do in that situation as he trains and practices emergency care as part of his law enforcement duties.

“My training and instincts kicked in and the care came naturally,” he says. “I also value my medical experience from my four years in the United States Air Force. I am a calm person when it comes to intense situations like these.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office later shared a video of Deputy Weaver’s rescue on TikTok, where many users praised Deputy Weaver for his quick reaction in the comments.

“I’m surprised by the response, but it’s a story of great public interest! I’m grateful that I was there and managed to save a child’s life, but there are so many stories like mine that go unnoticed,” says the policeman, who also pointed out that this is his third defense since 2015.

“Having a police presence in schools is so important. We’re not just there to take students to jail or catch bad people; we truly care about the safety and well-being of every student, faculty member and person who comes to campus.”

Deputy Weaver says he is still in contact with the mother whose baby he saved that day.

“I still see the mother every morning when she takes her other daughter to school,” he says. “Sometimes she’ll bring Cheyanne over to say hello and I get to hug her. Cheyanne’s sister is also enrolled in the school I cover, so I see her every morning on my way home and she gives me the best hugs!”
