Despite the large crowd that gathered in the city’s Bordesley Green district, the rally did not take place.

But the camera saw him wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt and a black jacket while holding a sword-shaped object.

He comes as Shehraz Sarwar, 46, charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Court documents released before his appearance said he allegedly had “a wooden stick with a rope wrapped around it.”

But Sarwar claimed today that the “weapon” was actually a religious staff.

The 20-minute hearing at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court was told that Sarwar, from Saltley, claims he has been carrying a cane in the area and neighboring Alum Rock for the past 11 years.

District Judge David Murray was told that Sarwar, who denies wrongdoing, was identified by neighborhood officers as someone caught up in Sky News’ coverage of the protest.

Sarwar said “I’ve never done anything, judge” and “give me a chance” as he was held until a second bail hearing on August 15.

The trial is scheduled for September 23.

It comes after more than 400 suspects have been arrested and around 120 charged as those involved in the riots begin to face justice.

Declan Geiran, 29, was found with three lighters when he was arrested and admitted attacking a police vehicle.

The court heard the rioter also sent threatening messages to the woman who attacked him online, which saw him jailed for two months.

He will be joined in prison by Liam Riley, 41, who joined a 100-strong march through Liverpool city center on Saturday.

Riley, of Kirkdale, admitted violent disorder and a racially motivated public order offence.

The court heard he had consumed a lot of alcohol and was found with a placard reading: “This is our town”.

He was in prison for 20 months.

Meanwhile, a woman who pushed a burning garbage can at the police appeared in court yesterday.

Stacy Vint, 34, was seen on video charging towards the line of officers before tripping.
