Reckless behavior by plane passengers caused a flight to take off two hours late, and Reddit users aren’t here for it.
On Dec. 9, a Redditor took to the platform’s popular “Am I A——” forum to describe a travel experience that happened “a few years ago,” noting that the situation was so extreme that it still sticks out in their minds .
“This was an international vacation flight that I had been planning for over a year and I was SO excited to get comfortable in my comfortable plus seat and break up before landing,” the poster recalls, adding, “Unfortunately, the person across from me had other plans.”
“As I settled in, I hear the standard ‘Oh, I think you’re in my place’ conversation start,” they continued.
The poster then explained that a woman with a standard economy seat assignment walked up to their section and asked another woman — who had reserved a seat in Comfort Plus — if she could switch seats with her so she could “sit next to her friend.”
The woman in the Comfort Plus seat politely refused, explaining that she had paid for the seat separately because of the long flight.

Airplane passenger says fellow passenger refused to get up when he went to the bathroom, then complained about ‘personal space’
According to a Redditor, a woman seated in economy class and her friend began “harassing” another passenger, claiming she was “ruining their trip.” The situation got so heated that the flight attendant and the pilot had to get involved, writes the Redditor.

As the pilot insisted that the economy class woman be returned to her correct seat, the woman’s friend continued to harass the passenger who refused to exchange, insisting that she had “ruined the whole flight” and even insinuated that she refused to give up her Comfort Plus seat “because she is fat «.
There was an excuse for the passenger who was in his correct seat the entire time, according to the poster. When the flight attendant was forced to intervene again, she moved that passenger to first class and away from the alleged harasser.

Unfortunately for the original poster, they said by that point, the plane missed its original takeoff time and ended up being two hours late.

However, friends also achieved their goals.
“The economics monster snuck back into the seat next to his monster friend at some point,” the Redditor recounted. “I wish they had been kicked out when they refused to move.”
Reddit users were unanimous in their outrage on behalf of the passengers.
“They both should have been ejected from the flight on the spot,” one commenter wrote in response to the story, while another added, “I feel like when a pilot has to get involved, the person should be escorted off the flight.”

“All seat stealers should be moved next to the toilet, renamed the shame zone,” said another commenter.
Another person offered a potential solution to prevent this behavior on flights in the future, writing: “When are we going to start charging these ——- for all the time they waste? I bet you would do really well—- if passengers could rack up a $10k bill for not following directions and delaying flights.”
