Cooper Koch is not married, but he proudly wears a ring on his left finger.
During an appearance on the October 16 episode of Sirius XM’s Andy Cohen livethe Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menéndez the actor revealed why he wore a wedding ring even though he was not married.
After being quizzed by host Andy Cohen about the piece of jewelry, which piqued the interest of fans earlier this week after appearing on Watch what’s happening liveKoch explained that he planned to accompany his brother Payton to the Emmy Awards when he was looking for accessories to complete his look. (Payton was nominated for editing on Hulu Just the murders in the building.)
“We were getting ready, and I didn’t have any jewelry,” he recalled. “I was with my boyfriend and we went to my room and I was looking at my jewelry, I had a ring that belonged to my grandfather, and I was like, ‘Oh, I should just wear this ring,’ and then we were like put it on his ring finger and it became kind of like, I don’t know, a romantic, protective mechanism.”

From the exit Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menéndez in late September, Koch became a breakout star in the Ryan Murphy-hosted crime series. The Netflix series tells the real-life story of the murder of parents José and Mary Lousa “Kitty” Menéndez by Erik (Koch) and Lyle Menéndez (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). He then follows them in the trial that followed in the early 90s.
The brothers killed their parents in their family home in Beverly Hills in August 1989, and Lyle later called 911 sobbing after finding their parents dead when they returned home from the movies.
While many praised Koch’s and Chavez’s performances in the drama, the series received backlash not only from the public but also from the real-life Menéndez brothers for their portrayal.

“[Erik’s reaction] it definitely affected me and made me feel things,” he said. “I sympathize with him, I sympathize with him. I understand. I understand how difficult it would be to have the worst part of your life televised for millions of people to see. It is so revealing. I understand how he feels and I stand by him.”
“In terms of approaching him and his role, I really wanted to do as much research as possible and dig really deep into myself to really portray him with integrity and be as authentic as possible to support him, but also his family and everything. the people who stand by him,” Koch added.
