Ke Huy Quan Presses Josh Brolin to Name His Favorite Goonies Costar in Surprise Reunion Moment

Ke Huy Quan suddenly appeared virtually to ask his own Goonies co-star Josh Brolin asked the all-important question about the iconic ’80s kids’ movie — and brought a special guest with him.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, as Brolin, 56, prepared to answer some questions about his storied acting career at New York Comic Con — held at the Javits Center and hosted by Steve Weintraub — There is no country for old men star received a video sent by one of his former colleagues, Quan, 53.

The Everything everywhere and at once star had two questions for Brolin, which played across the screen behind him, including: “What is your favorite memory from filming Goonies?”

“Part two,” Quan continued to laughs from the crowd, “Who’s your favorite Goonie?”

Adding to the surprise, Quan turned the camera and another one of theirs Goonies actors, Jeff Cohen, came into view.

“You know what a really great question,” Cohen said to cheers from the crowd. “Who’s your favorite Goonie?”

“By the way, nobody cares about your favorite memory, but who’s your favorite Goonie? We’d all like to know,” Cohen added, as he and Quan jokingly pointed to each other.

‘The Goonies’ cast: Where are they now?

Answering questions from his former co-stars, Brolin told the panelists that one of his favorite memories of making the film Goonies — in which Brolin played Brando, the oldest member of the crew — included the iconic pirate ship “Inferno” that was custom-built for the production.

“I wrote a book that comes out in November and it’s in a book,” Brolin began, talking about his upcoming memoir Under the truck. “They didn’t let us see the ship the whole time they were building it. So we ended up on the Warner Brothers lot and we were shooting in different stages, but they wouldn’t let us see the ship.”

“The moment finally came, I mean, four months of shooting, four and a half months of shooting, and they lined us up, they supported us, they made us close our eyes,” he recounted. “They said, ‘We want you to go underwater.’ They had speakers underwater and they said, ‘We want you, because we’re coming off the slide, it’s a cut, and we want you to come out underwater and turn around,’ and they’re going to get real reaction, you know, all of our real ship reactions.”

Although Brolin’s honest reaction to the sheer size of the ship was caught on camera, the first words he spoke weren’t exactly PG-rated, much to the chagrin of director Dick Donner.

“The ship was spectacular, ultimately. So we were pulled into it. We had our eyes closed. We went underwater. I hear this muffled, sort of, ‘Okay, guys. Ready and … action,'” he recalled. “We went up, we turned around, and I said, ‘F—!’ ”

“Dick Donner said, ‘What?’ ‘Sorry, s…, man, look at that thing,’ he recalled, to laughter from the audience.

In the end, Brolin and the rest of the crew had to act out their next round of reactions to “Inferno.”

And going back to Quan’s second question, the actor joked that his former co-stars were “all my favorites” — but he saluted Quan, because he “came back and won an Oscar, man.”

Although Cohen retired from acting when he came of age and became a lawyer, he has been open about remaining close to certain cast members Goonies cast — especially Quan, whom he represented during contract negotiations Everything everywhere and at once.

“When the producer of our movie was trying to get me a deal, he said he couldn’t imagine having to talk to Chunk and Dato for his movie,” Quan joked during an interview with the other actors for The Hollywood Reporter last year, referencing their characters in the 1985 adventure comedy.

“By the way, Chunk will get you a good deal?” co-star Adam Sandler joked.

“Jeff is an outstanding attorney,” Quan said.

Quan also spoke openly about his love for Goonies, telling Dax Shepard in his episode Armchair expert podcast earlier this year that appearing in a movie alongside a cast of other kids was “amazing.”

“One day we walk on a pirate ship, another day we go down a slide.” he told Shepard and co-host Monica Padman. “I mean, it was like a child’s dream.”
