Mugan Rao, also known as MGR, was born on October 20, 1995 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (age 22; age 2018). His father was a stage actor, so he began performing with his father to overcome financial difficulties. Becoming an actor was Mugen’s childhood dream. He made his acting debut with the film Senandung Malam. Apart from being an actor, Mugen Rao is also a singer, lyricist and entrepreneur.

Mugan Rao was born into a middle-class Hindu family. His father, Prakash Rao Krishnan, was a stage performer, and his mother, Nirmala Devi, was a worker at SP Setia Infrastructure Company. He has a brother Vignesh Rao and a sister Janany.

Mugan Rao completed his education from a school in Kuala Lumpur. He obtained a Diploma in Performing Arts from Limkokwing University in 2015.
As the family faced financial difficulties, Mugen Rao began his career at the age of nine, performing on stage with his father. While he was still in school, he formed a songwriting, production and singing group called “Random.CROWNZ” with his classmates.
When he was 13, Mugen’s uncle Sathis Rao helped him get a role in a Malay film. Thus, Mugen started his career with a small role as a newsboy in the movie Senandung Malam. Although the role was small, Mugen hasn’t looked back since. His performance in “Senandung Malam” led him to play another role in “Gerak Khas”.
He discovered his passion for singing while performing on stage with his father. Mugen Rao established himself as a singer and director with the song Kayalvizhi released in 2016.
He also appeared in the feature film “Ghora”.
Mugen Rao has appeared in the short films “Deepavali Special” and “Light Up Someone’s Life”.
Mugen also hosts the travel show “KL to KK”.
In addition to being an actor, he has also appeared in various television commercials. Rao enjoys a huge fan base on social media. In 2019, he appeared in the third season of the entertainment reality show “Bigg Boss”.
In 2019, he won the award for Best Actor in a TV Series.
