A WOMAN has been charged with murdering her six-year-old son after appearing in court this evening.
Ruth Purcell Healy, 37, of Bishop’s Field, Williamstown Road, Waterford, was brought before a special sitting of Waterford District Court.

The 37-year-old is accused of murdering Matthew Healy on February 6, 8 or 9 last week in Rathmoylan, Co Waterford.
Detective Sergeant David Shoer gave evidence about the arrest, caution and charge.
He told the court she was arraigned tonight and offered her a chance to answer.
The court heard that when called upon to answer the charge, she said: “No thank you”.
Inspector Shay Keevans requested a remand, which was granted.
Judge Kevin Staunton remanded the accused in custody in Limerick Prison until next Tuesday.
He also ordered her psychiatric evaluation upon her arrival at the prison.
Matthew was found unresponsive in the back seat of the vehicle shortly after midnight.
The first emergency services desperately tried to save his life.
He was given CPR at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The remains of the tragic youngster, who lived in Ballygunner outside Waterford and attended Faithlegg National High School, have been released back to his father James Healy.
His funeral will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Watergrasshill in Co Cork, on Wednesday at 12 noon.
A private service will follow at The Island Crematorium Ringaskiddy.
Matthew’s death notice read: “Matthew James Healy of Watergrashill, Cork and Ballygunner, Waterford passed away on 9th February 2024 unexpectedly, aged 6 years.
“Sadly missed by his heartbroken dad James, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family, neighbors and friends.
“Fly with the angels. Just family flowers. Donations, if you wish, can be made to the Make a Wish Foundation www.makeawish.ie.”
Hundreds attended a vigil for little Matthew in Waterford on Saturday.
In a statement on Mr Healy’s behalf, published in the Irish Examiner, he thanked those who paid tribute to his son.
It read: “Matthew’s father, James Healy, expresses his deep gratitude for the several vigils held for his son Matthew across Waterford. He would like privacy at this sad time.”
