Her mother Jaskirat Kaur appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court today charged with murder.

The 33-year-old, who also goes by the name Jasmine Kang, spoke only to confirm her identity during the brief hearing.

She pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody, who will appear in the same court on April 22.

The horror unfolded after police were called to the home after a welfare officer could not get an answer.

Shay’s cause of death has not been confirmed and an autopsy will be performed in due course.

Tributes poured in for the youngster, who was a pupil at Brickhouse Primary School.

The school said in a statement: “Shay was a bright, happy, fun-loving child who was loved by all and will be greatly missed by all of us.

“The school is the heart of the community and we have already started working with our children and staff to support them following this devastating news.”

Shay’s godmother Kayleigh Colclough also spoke of her pain at the heartbreaking tribute.

She wrote: “I will miss you little girl. My heart hurts.

“I’m not sure how I feel. I feel sick, numb, angry and a failure. I’m completely heartbroken.

“I’m so sorry little girl. I’ll miss you forever, but remember I’m bringing you justice.”
