A property in southern England was searched and computer devices and documentation were seized for expert examination.
The man was questioned by detectives and held in custody for around 18 hours before being released on bail pending further enquiries.
The rape allegation is historical and involves a child who was under ten years old at the time.
The child was allegedly raped several times over a period of time.
At the time of the alleged crime, the known suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was working in the television industry.
His bosses were informed of the police investigation and his arrest — but the presenter’s television colleagues were not thought to be aware.
The complainant recently brought this up and reported it to the police.
She was interviewed by specialists for investigating child abuse in a dedicated apartment and an investigation was launched.
The police conducting the investigation confirmed the arrest.
Police were expected to make further inquiries into his background as part of their investigation.
A neighbor of the arrested man said: “The police turned up very early.
“They took him away and searched him for some time.
“Everyone is shocked by his arrest.”
The Sun approached the presenter’s employers for comment on Sunday.
