Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, reportedly took to the Internet forum Reddit to discuss his own health issues.

Posts from his now-deleted Reddit account reviewed by PEOPLE show Mangione allegedly discussing a myriad of health issues, ranging from back pain to sleep problems, beginning in the fall of 2018.

Under the username Mister_Cactus, Mangione posted about having restless sleep as a 20-year-old.

In one lengthy entry, Mangione described waking up 10 times during a typical eight-hour night’s sleep.

“I usually wake up after 4 hours, then after another 1.5 hours, then wake up 9 or more times in the last 2.5 hours,” he wrote.

“In the last year, these problems have started to get much worse, and I wake up feeling unrefreshed no matter how much sleep I get,” he continued, adding, “Less than 8 hours causes extreme exhaustion during the day.”

In 2023, Magione spoke openly about his back problems, which former neighbors who lived with him in Hawaii a year earlier said he had from an apparent pinched nerve.

“It can be easy to get caught up in the plethora of horror stories online. When my spondylo went bad last year (23M), it was absolutely devastating for a young athletic person,” Mangione reportedly wrote in a post dated Aug. 3, 2023. “Spondi” is short for spondylolisthesis, a rare back condition where the vertebrae in the spine slip from the place.

However, he appears to have had a successful surgery and recovery, even sharing his experience on the “Athletic Success Stories” thread.

“All I could read online seemed to be that I was destined for chronic pain and a desk job for the rest of my life. That portrayal was scary, inaccurate, and completely destroyed me until I realized that the quiet majority of fusions are very successful. Hoping “I hope this can help others who find themselves in the same position. This is not just encouraging surgery, but just reassurance that sports life is completely normal after fusion if/when surgery is necessary,” he assured others facing problems in the past.

The February 2024 post appears to confirm that he had the surgery six months prior, either in late July or early August 2023.

“Yes, I had an L5/S1 spinal fusion 6 months ago after 1.5 years of unsuccessful conservative treatment. Within 7 days of the fusion, I was off any pain medication. (That’s probably faster than most people, but I’m just saying that your body It’s not (I shouldn’t be in pain and I need medicine, even after they cut open my back and pierced my spine, it didn’t hurt too much),” the post said. to read.
