My daughter Angel Lynn was paralysed & unable to speak after being kidnapped by ex – now she’s uttered her first word

The mum of a girl who was maimed by her thug ex in a horror kidnapping today revealed she had said her first word.

Angel Lynn, then 19, fell from the van at 60km/h after being grabbed by Chay Bowskill, who was filmed grabbing her “like a rag doll”.

She now requires 24-hour care and has been unable to communicate, walk or feed herself.

Her mum Nikki Lynn told Good Morning Britain she feared her daughter would never be able to speak again after the horror in September 2020.

But brave Angel suddenly managed to say the word “mom” after three years of silence, and Nikki was able to capture the touching moment on video.

Nikki said: “She said it the first time and I just couldn’t believe it. I thought I had to put it on camera because sometimes she doesn’t always do things the second time around.

– I asked her to repeat it and she did it immediately.

The mom explained how Angel was “moaning” in the hospital so Nikki told her she needed to be able to “say something.”

She added: “Then I started making sounds myself and it just came out.

“I didn’t have any warning or anything […] because I thought he would never speak again. You don’t like to get your hopes up too much.”

The gruesome footage showed Bowskill chasing Angel, now 22, after she left during an argument.

He then grabbed her from behind in a bear hug and shoved her into his van.

While traveling on the road at a speed of 60 km/h, Angel fell out of the vehicle.

She was found lying on the A6 near Loughborough, Leics, on 27 September 2020 with catastrophic injuries.

Angel, who suffered a fractured skull and brain injuries, may never fully recover.

Bowskill was originally jailed for a total of seven-and-a-half years – but would only serve half that sentence behind bars.

The judges of the Court of Appeal more than doubled his sentence last March to 16 years and three months.

Angela’s family, who have been forced to adapt their home so she can return, have backed calls for the case to be sent to the highest court.

Bowskill (20) and his friend Rocco Sansome (20) denied the kidnapping, but were found guilty after a trial.

He was also convicted of coercive and controlling behavior and perverting the course of justice – but was cleared of causing grievous bodily harm.

How you can get help

Women’s Aid has the following advice for victims and their families:

  • Always keep your phone nearby.
  • Get in touch with charities for help, including the Women’s Aid live chat helpline and services such as SupportLine.
  • If you are in danger, call 999.
  • Learn about the silent solution, by reporting abuse without speaking into the handset, instead of dialing “55”.
  • Always have some cash with you, including change for a payphone or bus ticket.
  • If you suspect that your partner is about to attack you, try to go to a less risky part of the house – for example, where there is an exit and access to a telephone.
  • Avoid the kitchen and garage, where knives or other weapons are likely to be found. Avoid rooms where you could become trapped, such as a bathroom or where you could be locked in a closet or other small space.
