He admitted lying to wife Ellie during a family holiday and sneaking onto a Zoom interview with BBC bosses over his X-marked messages.

An emotional Jenas is now trying to rebuild their relationship after telling his wife he was fired for sending inappropriate messages to two female colleagues.

He told The Sun: “We haven’t really spoken properly since. She is absolutely furious.”

Jenas, who also has a teenage daughter from a previous relationship, said he was kicked out of the bedroom the couple shared in their £1million home in Hertfordshire.

He tearfully admitted that he didn’t know if Ellie would forgive him.

Hailing her as an “amazing mother”, he said she was solely focused on taking care of their two daughters and young son.

Jenas explained: “Right now it’s just about the kids. It’s school holidays and they are trapped in the house because there are photographers outside my house.

“They say, ‘What’s going on, Dad?’ It is difficult.”

He added: “I have to take responsibility and I have apologized to them all.

“I don’t know what to say about that, to be honest with you.

“It’s hard for the children at home right now. My wife is a real woman.

“My wife is solid and amazing. She is kind. She just needs some time.”

Jenas went on to praise Ellie for standing by him throughout his football career, which he previously said was “single-minded and selfish to succeed”.

The disgraced star continues to count top players, including former England captain David Beckham, among his friends.

Last year, Jenas and Ellie fell out because he started spending more time hanging out with his One Show co-workers.

The presenter said: “It was all flashy, but for my wife it was like diapers, milk.

“I’m a very hands-on dad and always try to help, but still, she wasn’t getting that fulfillment in her life.”

The couple had had explosive arguments, but, Jenas admitted, they quietly resolved their issues with the help of couples therapy.

Speaking for the first time about seeking help, Jenas said: “It was actually for marriage. We used to work together in the past.

“But that’s my wife’s business, to be completely honest with you. I’d rather not get into that.

“We have been together for about 15 years. And it takes work, you know, throughout the process.”

Jenas and Ellie were on holiday in Marbella, Spain, with their three children when the BBC first received the call.

I just said, ‘I’ve been sacked from the BBC’. She said ‘Why?’ and I said ‘For sending messages that were inappropriate for two girls’.

After learning he was fired, Jermaine was forced to admit everything Ellie thought he was going to work on The One Show on Monday.

He said: “Obviously I was hoping to maybe get some sort of suspension.

“I had to tell her by Monday night because that’s when I knew I was fired.

“I just said, ‘I’ve been sacked from the BBC’.

“She said ‘Why?’ and I said ‘For sending messages that were inappropriate for two girls’.

“Ellie is absolutely furious. She is human.

“When I see her now, she’s just making sure the kids are okay.”

The fallout from Jenas’ sexting didn’t just affect his marriage to former model Ellie, whom he married in 2011 while on loan at Aston Villa.

While the doctor referred Jenas to a therapist, he fears that his two oldest daughters – who are 11 and 16 – could become victims of bullying because of his antics.

Jenas said: “There were difficult conversations with my 16-year-old and my 11-year-old.

“Obviously, they are at an age where they are aware of social media and other little things. That was difficult.

“I let everyone down. When you have kids, man.

“Even my dog looked at me with disappointment.

“But with the kids, I think this is where I’m hoping the help will help me.

“There are certain times where I’m doing certain things when it’s just a complete, almost blackout of what I’m doing and I can’t act like that.

“Basically, I can’t risk my life that much.”

Jenas insists that the messages he shared with the two women were consensual.

However, he is reeling from the consequences of his deception.

ASHAMED

When asked if he is more worried about the loss of his livelihood or his family, he immediately answers: “My family within a kilometer.” There is something in me that prays that there is some level of mercy in all of this, or an understanding of the fact that we are human beings and that we make mistakes.

“Some bigger than others — and it’s my big mistake.

“After every hour, it’s like wave after wave. It just numbs you.

“Then it’s ‘Are my children okay?’, ‘Is my wife okay?’. You know, I just keep checking it.”

Jenas insisted that Ellie shouldn’t fear more women coming off the track. When asked if there were “any more surprises”, he answered decisively: “No”.

But he admitted: “Before marriage, until today, I made a lot of mistakes.

“But it’s time to own it. I have behaved in a certain way that is simply not acceptable in our marriage.

“Ellie is completely innocent in all of this. All he does is at home, working full time, taking care of my children.

“She is a full-time mother and is actually starting her own business.

“And it’s like, there’s a bunch of things that she does that carry the family. And I’m just adding stress, basically.”

Admitting that he acted like a dick, Jenas smiles and says, “I think my wife would love you for that.

“The most important factor is how sorry I am to everyone.

“Now I’m just trying to get closer to my family and be with them.

“They are my priority now.”

JERMAINE Jenas made his debut for Nottingham Forest in 2001, aged just 17.

The midfielder played for Newcastle United, Tottenham, Aston Villa and QPR, scoring a career total of 39 goals in 341 league appearances.

He won the League Cup with Spurs in 2008.

Jenas also made 21 appearances for the senior England team, scoring once.

He was 19 years old when he played for the first game in February 2003 and was named PFA Young Player of the Year that season.

Injuries slowed his progress, and he officially announced his retirement in 2016 on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

In 2020, Jenas started co-hosting The One Show, and a year later he became one of its permanent hosts.
