Attacked for making insensitive comments
In 2018, Mysskin was heavily attacked by netizens for making an insensitive joke about popular actor Mammootty. While admiring Mammootty’s acting skills, during the audio launch of the film “Peranb”, Mysskin said that if he were a woman, he would rape Mammootty.

- After entering the film industry, he changed his name from Shanmugha Raja to Mysskin. He spoke about it in an interview and said that when he entered the Tamil film industry, there were many stars named ‘Raja’. So he wanted a new name to stand out from the crowd. He chose “Mysskin” as his stage name, inspired by the protagonist “Prince Myskin” in Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel “The Idiot”.
- He revealed in an interview that he started getting involved in the film industry as an assistant to film director Kessel. When he was working in a bookstore, Kessel noticed him and invited him to join. He said he and Kessel worked together for nearly eight months without finding any work.
- He is known for his unique approach to filmmaking, incorporating detailed storyboarding and realistic martial arts sequences, unconventional shots, narrative elements, meticulous set construction and deep characterization.
