A 22-year-old North Carolina woman, Kaneijah Zyir Bradley, has been charged with murder after her 10-year-old sister was stabbed to death, according to a news release from the North Carolina Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday around 10:30 p.m., Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a missing 10-year-old child in the 2000 block of Beaverdam Road.
Upon arrival, deputies were informed that the girl’s mother had found her missing child dead in the yard. Investigators at the scene believe a 10-year-old girl was transported outside after being stabbed inside the home.
“Further investigation revealed that the child had been stabbed multiple times and was in fact deceased,” the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The motive behind the incident is unclear at this time and remains under investigation.”
Bradley, the older sister of the deceased, was arrested and charged with murder. She is currently being held in the Halifax County Detention Center without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 25.

Bradley was arrested twice in 2023, WRAL reports. She was charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury and theft of a motor vehicle in April. In August, she was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant and a misdemeanor charge of resisting a public servant. Bradley’s trial date for the April charges is set for Jan. 29, and her trial for the August charges is set for Feb. 24, according to WITN.
“This is such a sad incident,” Sheriff Tyree Davis said in a news release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
“It’s tragic any time a life is taken, especially a child’s,” Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Scott Hall told ABC11. “So, heartbreaking. When deputies go to the scene and find an incident like this.” Hall continued, “It’s hard for everyone involved, including the family and all the first responders.”

A nearby neighbor, Bernard Day, shared with WRAL that the community had “never heard of anything like this in our neighborhood.” Day — who did not know the victim or the suspect — continued, “They are in our prayers.”
“We want them. Just let God handle it,” Day said. “This is the only thing we can do at this time.”
