Sombir Singh (1982-2019) was an Indian Army soldier who was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India’s third highest peacetime gallantry medal, for his role in the fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. In 2019, he was shot dead during an anti-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir. In January 2024, it was announced that actor Barun Sobti would play the role of Sombir Singh in the second season of the TV series Rakshak – Indian Warriors.

Sombir Singh Kadyan was born on Thursday, February 4, 1982, in Mithi village, Siwani Tehsil, Bhiwani district, Haryana, India (age 37 at the time of death). His zodiac sign is Aquarius. Profession
Sombir Singh Kadyan joined the 8th Battalion of the Jat Regiment as a sepoy after completing his military training in Bareilly in 2001. Due to his leadership qualities, he later became a naib subedar, also known as a junior officer officer (JCO), in the same battalion. After becoming Nabu Subedar, Qadiyan was posted to Jammu and Kashmir where he joined the 34 National Rifles Battalion and helped the battalion curb terrorism in Kulgam. He led his battalion in numerous counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir.
Operation Rakshak
The operation was launched by the Indian Army in the mid-1990s to rid Kashmir of militants. On February 24, 2019, the Sombir Battalion received information that three heavily armed militants were present in Tuligam village of Kulgam. Soon after, the battalion sent Sombir and some other troops to suppress the militants. Sombir was part of a commando team assigned to kill the militants. Militants opened fire on the commandos during fighting and search operations in the village. Under the command of Sombir, he carried out effective retaliation against the militants. According to sources, he then laid ambushes at several locations in the village to prevent the militants from escaping; however, one of the militants opened fire on the troops, causing Sombir’s comrades to be seriously injured. To protect his comrades from being killed, Sombir left his security cover and opened fire on the militants, successfully killing him. It was later determined that the slain militant was of foreign origin and belonged to the A++ category. In the process, Sombir was shot twice and died.

Sombir Singh, 37, suffered two gunshot wounds, one in the neck and the other in the chest, during a counter-insurgency operation in Jammu and Kashmir on February 24, 2019 passed away. After sustaining fatal injuries at Kulgam, he was airlifted to 92 Base Hospital at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar, where he died. In an interview, his daughter Priya said of his death:
My martyr father was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his courage while fighting militants and it was a proud moment for our family. Today, I can proudly say that I am Shahid Fauji’s daughter. It was difficult to live without a father, but he went above and beyond his responsibilities as a father and sacrificed his life for his country. I want to say that the government should always take care of the families of martyrs. “

- After the death of Sombir Singh Kadyan in 2019, the Haryana government issued an ex-gratia check of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the deceased. 2 lac and announced that his wife Suman Devi will get a government job based on her educational qualifications.
- In January 2024, it was revealed that Barun Sobti will essay the role of Naib Subedar Sombir Singh Kadyan in Rakshak – India’s Braves Chapter 2. In an interview, Barun spoke about this and said;
My heart is filled with a deep sense of accomplishment and gratitude. It is a great responsibility to play the role of an individual who gave his life for his country.
