In the late 1970s, Nancy competed and won Miss Florida 1976. She then competed in the 1977 Miss America pageant, along with other contestants. Stafford made his film debut in 1982 as an eyewitness in Q: The Winged Serpent (Crime Mystery). From 1983 to 1986, she played Joan Halloran in the TV series St. Elsewhere.
