Naomi Watts Wishes 'Queen' Nicole Kidman a Happy 57th Birthday: 'I Love You So Much'

Naomi Watts is celebrating another trip around the sun for her best friend Nicole Kidman.

On Thursday, June 20, Watts, 55, shared a photo of herself posing with Kidman on Instagram as Moulin Rouge the star celebrated his 57th birthday.

“Happy birthday Nic 💥I love you so much #QUEEN ♥️,” Watts wrote in the caption. Other celebrities like Carla Gugino chimed in in the comments on Watts’ post to wish Kidman well. “Happy birthday @nicolekidman 🎂🥳🌸,” wrote Gugino (52) in one comment.

Kidman and Watts have been friends for decades; Watts even reflected on their longtime friendship and their first meeting when she spoke on Kidman’s behalf at the 49th AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards in April, when Kidman accepted one of the film industry’s biggest awards. In the speech, Watts recalled that she and Kidman first met at an audition for an “80s swimsuit commercial” and waited several hours for photographers to decide who to cast.

“We covered everything, what movies we like, what friends we have in common, our parents, schools, parties, boyfriends, teenage stuff,” Watts recalled, noting that neither she nor Kidman were cast. As Watts recalled, she missed the bus home and Kidman was kind enough to help her find her way back by taxi. She even described the Oscar winner as “the most generous person”.

“In the Stone Age, we didn’t have cell phones or Uber accounts. And no, our moms weren’t waiting for us outside,” Watts recalled of their first meeting. “But Nic offered to hail a cab and she said she’d drop me off on the way home, even though it was 20 minutes from her way and there was an extra $15 on the meter.”

“She opened her homes to me. She made me feel like part of her family. She was like the sister I never had,” Watts added at the time, noting that Kidman supported her early in her career even after Kidman’s career took off.

Watts and Kidman later starred in the 1991 film Flirting, although they haven’t worked together since. Earlier this month, Kidman attended Watts’ second wedding to Billy Crudup in Mexico City. “Best wedding weekend in #MexicoCity full of love and fun!!” she wrote over a photo of herself that Watts then posted on her Instagram stories. “Congratulations to the beautiful bride and groom xx,” she added, along with numerous heart emojis.
