SOMETHING

The National Examinations Council, commonly referred to as NECO, is a prominent examination body in Nigeria. Established in April 1999 by former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, NECO is responsible for conducting two main examinations: the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) in June/July and the General Certificate in Education (GCE) in November/December.

Notably, NECO was the first federal organization to offer subsidized registration to academic candidates in Nigeria, with the aim of making education accessible to the general population. The council was mandated to take over the responsibilities of the National Board for Educational Measurement (NBEM), and its inaugural trial was held in mid-2000.
