Neelam was accused in a case of poaching two blackbucks in Kankani during the shooting of the film “Hum Saath Saath Hain” (1999). She was charged with violating Section 51 of the Wildlife Act (causing harm to wildlife), Section 147 (punishment for rioting) and Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code, along with her partner Salman ·Salman Khan. Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bender and Tabu. She filed a modification petition with the court and was released. Later, the Jodhpur High Court summoned her and all the accused in February 2013 to begin the trial on the revised charges. On April 5, 2018, the Jodhpur CJM Court acquitted Kothari.
