Neena Gupta was born into a Hindu family. Her father’s name is late RN Gupta. Her mother Shakuntala Gupta died of cancer. She has a brother, Pankaj Gupta.
At the age of 16, she married a boy from Calcutta who had studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, but the marriage only lasted two years. In the 1980s, she met veteran actor Alok Nath while filming a TV series. There were rumors that they were engaged and later broke up.
Later, she started dating Shaarangdev, the son of popular Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj. There were rumors that the two had a private engagement ceremony, but later parted ways.
In the late 1980s, she began dating West Indies cricket legend Vivian Richards. The couple dated for nearly 13 years. She had an illegitimate daughter with him, born in 1989. After completing an acting course from the National Academy of Drama in 1982, she began her acting career.
In 1982, she made her acting debut in the Bollywood film Saath Saath.
In the same year, she came into limelight for her role as “Abha” in the international film “Gandhi”.
Later, she appeared in Bollywood films such as Mandi (1983), Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983), Rihaee (1988), Swarg (1990) and Drishti (1990).
