Neil Ellwood Peart was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on September 12, 1952. His father is Glen Peart and his mother is Betty Peart. Neil Peart has two older sisters, Nancy Peart and Judy Peart, and one brother, Danny Peart.
Neil Peart was born and raised in various locations throughout Ontario and attended Lakeport High School. He started taking piano lessons and then switched to drums. He started learning drums at age 13, bought equipment at 14, and enrolled in classes at the Peninsula Conservatory.

Career
Neil Peart started performing in high school with a band he formed at the time. He was having a hard time making a successful career in Canada, so he decided to move to London and see how things turned out.
Neil was 18 years old when he moved to London, where he played in several bands and worked as a jewelry salesman. He was unable to sustain a successful professional music career there and returned to Canada to work with his father.
Neil later joined Hush and in 1974 joined Rush, where his professional music career began.
Neil Peart went on the band’s first tour less than two weeks after joining; they did a tour in the US, and it was amazing. Then, in addition to his constant touring, he started writing for them, and his first album with Rush was released in 1975 with the title “Fly by Night”, and the following year they released ” Cares of Steel”. When Neil Peart’s daughter died, he told the band members that he was going to retire, take a break, then rejoin the band. Neil Peart announced his retirement in 2015, citing his advanced age and many health problems.
Neil Peart has also worked on two albums for Buddy Rich and has performed with him several times. He has written several books, including “Far And Wide”, “Clockwork Lives” and “Clockwork Angels: The Graphic Novel”.
