Netflix has released a trailer for their highly anticipated TV series, Painkiller, which explores the origins and consequences of the opioid crisis in the US.
The limited series, which launches to the streaming platform on August 10, is inspired by real events and features an all-star cast that includes Uz Aduba, Matthew Broderick, and Taylor Kitsch. Keep reading to know everything you need to know about the upcoming TV series.

What are painkillers about?
Analgesic is a fictional account of events and explores “some of the origins and consequences of the opioid crisis in America, highlighting stories of perpetrators, victims, and truth seekers, who who changed lives forever by inventing OxyContin,” according to the synopsis. Each of the six episodes begins with the testimony of a family member who has lost a loved one to the opioid crisis.
The film, created and written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, places a special emphasis on Purdue Pharma, the company that makes OxyContin, and its founder Richard Sackler, and examines those who have tried to bring down the company. companies and people whose lives are greatly affected by drugs.

The series is based on journalist Barry Meier’s book of the same name, as well as a New Yorker Magazine article about the Sackler dynasty, The family that built a painful empirePatrick Radden Keefe.

Director Pete Berg said: “Everybody knows the opioid crisis is terrible. But this is the unique story of the collision between drugs and money that allowed it to happen.
“One of the many things I think is missing [from the conversation about OxyContin] was the introduction of drugs into mainstream medicine. How Arthur Sackler, a psychiatrist from New York who specializes in brain surgery, began to realize that the future lay in pills – more precisely in pill advertising. Whoever can market their drug better will make the most money,” Pete told Tudumu.

Rounding out the main cast is Taylor Kitsch as hardworking family man and business owner Glen Kryger, whose life is completely turned upside down following an injury.
