Nev Schulman says he’s “lucky to be alive” after breaking his neck in a bike accident.
The Dancing with the stars The alum, 39, shared on Instagram on Saturday, August 10, that the incident happened on Monday while he was on his way to his son’s school to bring him home.
“I have never been able to pick my son up from school on a bicycle,” he wrote. “Actually, in a way, I’m glad I didn’t. I was alone at the impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the sidewalk. I was alone and unconscious.”
He said he was taken to hospital where he learned the full extent of his injuries. “I broke my neck,” he explained.
“Stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed,” he continued. “My hands were a question mark for a minute, but the human body is amazing, and so are PEOPLE.”

Schulman then thanked EMS, as well as the employees of Southampton EMS and Stony Brook Intensive Care who provided him with medical care.
In the post, he showed several videos of staff members helping him recover, including one showing physical therapists helping him out of bed to practice walking again.

Another clip showed him high-fiving a member of staff as he practiced walking down a hospital corridor with a neck brace as a physiotherapist walked alongside him.
Schulman also shared photos taken at the hospital, including a shot of him lying in his hospital bed with a neck brace and scans of his neck injuries. He also showed off his purple surgery scar on the back of his neck.

Another video shows Schulman’s bike helmet, which was broken, before he turns to face him on the bed while giving a thumbs up. On the table could be seen several drawings of his children with wife Laura Perlongo – Cleo James, 7, Beau Bobby Bruce, 5, and Cy Monroe, 2. In another shot, his children hugged him as he stood up and hugged them.
“I’m happy to be here, alive, standing and hugging my family, who is predicted to make a full recovery,” he said. “And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude. For big and small things before the accident, and now everything is moving forward.”

In its title, Catfish The host also spoke about how grateful he was to have had a “magical” day with his family “full of love and wonder” the day before. He said that his son came up with the idea to go fishing and they managed to find a “free boat” and “caught all kinds of fish”.

“Monday added weight to how happy I was to have Sunday,” he said as he shared one snap from the day of him and his kids on a boat in a photo collage. “It’s true what they say – life can change in an instant.”
“We weren’t planning on fishing last Sunday and my instinct was not to plan a day trip, but looking back a week later, I’m so glad I went,” he added.
