Lucasfilm releases new trailer acolyte, unveiling what appears to be a Sith Lord from the High Republic era. The Jedi at the time believed the Sith had been extinct for a thousand years, and in fact they had forgotten almost everything about their ancient nemesis; all they really knew was that they wielded red lightsabers.

This makes acolyte‘s new trailer is even more stunning — and ominous. It seems the balance has tipped towards the dark side, which can only mean the Sith are at work. Any Jedi who encountered this mysterious, malevolent figure were either disbelieved or died before their story could be told.

We know very little about the Sith of the High Republic
The Sith of this era are a mystery. It’s possible that this Sith Lord was Darth Plagueis, Palpatine’s mentor who learned how to conquer death and unwisely passed on his secrets to his apprentice.Palpatine tells Anakin Skywalker the story of Darth Plagueis Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, but Canon has yet to flesh out the details. If this was Plagueis, then his power must be staggering.
