Dressed head-to-toe in black and brandishing huge weapons, the kidnappers sneak out from under the toll booth and burst in.
After opening the doors of the police cars, they took out Mohamed Amra in handcuffs.
A national manhunt has been launched for a “very dangerous” dealer, convicted of attempted murder.
Before Amra and his associates free him, an explosion sparks from inside the black car.
All five scatter and disappear behind the tollbooth barriers before running away.
Amra, known to the police for drug dealing, burglaries and attempted murder, was being transferred from Rouen to Evreuz prison when she was ambushed.
A career criminal, allegedly the “boss of a narcotics network” in France, has just appeared in court following a recent burglary charge.
His transport convoy was hit near Eure in Normandy when the van stopped at the tollbooth in Incarville at around 11am.
Shocking footage taken from a passing bus shows the gunmen brandishing what police have described as AK 47s.
Professional-looking shooters, dressed in black with hoods and gloves, run towards the convoy as the clip pans to capture the scene.
Pools of blood could be seen covering the floor in front of the crushed vans.
A second video emerged showing police tending to a colleague as he lay bleeding on the floor.

Three police officers were seriously injured in the ambush, and two were killed.
Two white police vans were also filmed with the doors wide open and the windows broken.
One of the cars used in the getaway, a white Audi A5, was found wrecked in Vatteville.
The other, a BMW 5, headed in the direction of Louviers and Evreux and was later found burnt out near the Evreux hospital.
The Eure Police Commander activated “Plan Epervier”, or Plan Sparrowhawk to catch them, which puts all levels of officers on high alert.
It was last used during the manhunt for notorious gangster and prison escapee Redoine Faid in 2018 and 2015 after the Charlie Hebdo attack.
Amra was shuttled between prisons after being sentenced to 18 months in prison last week for a series of aggravated thefts.
He used a gun to rob a supermarket and other businesses in the suburb of Evreux in the summer of 2019.
Amra was also detained in connection with the death of a man in Marseille on June 17, 2022.
A police source told RTL: “He is suspected of ordering the assassination in Marseille on June 17, 2022.
“The charred body of a man was found in a burnt-out vehicle, in the town of Le Rove, on the border with Marseilles. The victim was apparently previously executed by a bullet to the head.”
A source familiar with his criminal past said: “Amra is nicknamed the fly, because he is everywhere, like an annoying fly.
“He was arrested for everything from robberies and burglaries to numerous crimes against the person.
“He’s a classic street criminal, a guy who enjoys a nickname. I’d suggest he also likes to hang around human waste products, which also makes him like a fly.”
French Justice Minister Eric Dupond Moretti wrote on X: “Prison convoy attacked in Eure.
“Two of our prison officers were killed, three were seriously injured.
“All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and their colleagues.
“I’m going to the @justice_gouv crisis unit immediately.”
A local council official, Alexandre Rassaert, said: “I was frozen with horror when I learned of the real carnage that took place at the Incarville toll booth.
“I sincerely hope that the gang of murderers who carried out this bloody attack will be quickly arrested.
“All my thoughts go out to the families of the prison service agents who escorted the prisoners and who were killed or seriously injured during this attack that gave them no chance.
I also think of all the guards of the prison administration who guard the prisoners daily risking their lives.
French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X this afternoon: “This morning’s attack, which cost the lives of prison officers, is a shock to us all.
“The nation is with the families, the injured and their colleagues.
“Everything is being done to find the perpetrators of this crime so that justice can be served on behalf of the French people. We will be unrelenting.”
