New York Yankees Support Teammate Brett Gardner After His Son's Death at Age 14: 'Words Feel Insignificant and Insufficient'

A few hours after 41 -year -old Brett and his wife Jessica Gardner announced that their son Miller Gardner unexpectedly died at the age of 14, while on a family vacation, the Major League Baseball (MLB) team split the support.

“Our hearts are difficult and the Yankees family is filled with sadness after learning about Miller Gardner’s passage,” Yankees wrote in the Instagram Story Story on Sunday, March 2nd. “Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss.”

“It’s not just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years – so is his wife Jessica and their two boys, Hunter and Miller,” the team continued, referring to the Gardner family, which includes Brett and Jessica another son.

Continuing their statement, the Yankees wrote: “We are mourning with Brett, Jessica, Hunter and their community of family and friends in mourning over the loss of Miller.”

The team said that Brett’s teen son “had a spark in his eyes, a departure and a fierce personality, and a warm and love nature.”

“Our love for the Gardner family is unconditional and absolute, and we will provide our lasting support with understanding their desire for privacy in that,” Yankees added.

They then concluded their post on social networks, writing, “May Miller rest in peace.”

In a statement of Brett and Jessica about their son’s death, parents said Miller “left us too early after we got sick with several other family members while we were on vacation.”

“We have so many questions and so few answers at the moment, but we know he died calmly in his dream in the morning on Friday, March 21,” they continued.

The couple – who got married in 2007 – later expressed gratitude to “everyone who reached out to support and encourage in this difficult time.”

“We are convinced that faith, family and friends help us to move at this unimaginable loss. Our prayers come out to Miller’s teammates and friends, as well as all other families who have lost their child too early as soon as they share their sadness,” concluded Brett and Jessica. “Please respect our wishes for privacy as we grieve and seek healing.”

Gardner is a striker who spent his entire 14-year MLB career with the Yankees. His playing career ended after the 2021 season, although he did not officially announce his retirement.

He and his wife did not describe in detail where they were on vacation at the time of the incident or the cause of death for their son.
