But the 43-year-old became so exhausted that he was led off the Jet2 plane at Manchester Airport in handcuffs.

Thomson refused to stop smoking on the plane and told the captain to “screw you”.

He was also said to be foaming at the mouth after he flew into a rage and caused the plane to be delayed.

Thomson has now been sentenced to ten weeks in prison suspended for 12 months after admitting he was drunk on the plane.

Manchester Crown Court heard the groom had been drinking heavily in the departure lounge on September 16 as he and Jenna prepared to leave for their honeymoon.

When he boarded the plane, staff told Thomson to stop smoking, but the “obviously intoxicated” passenger refused.

Prosecutor Tobias Collins said: “The captain decided he was a security risk and went to talk to him – but he still didn’t stop and told the captain ‘Fuck you.’

“As a result of his behaviour, the flight was eventually canceled due to the delay it caused.

“When police arrived, they encountered the defendant and he was arrested.”

Thomson told officers they couldn’t take him away because he was on his honeymoon and screamed for ten minutes as they handcuffed him.

The window cleaner also told his grieving wife, who stayed by his side, to record the incident and told her to call a lawyer.

When questioned by police, he insisted he swore out of “bitterness” rather than anger after seeing “a look of disappointment and anguish” on Jenna’s face.

His barrister Alistair Reid told the court: “He is otherwise a very responsible and respectable man, works as a window fitter, is married and has two daughters.

“He has a number of family members in Mallorca, including his father. This incident has caused him considerable difficulty in terms of how to fly there.”

As well as a suspended prison sentence, Thomson was also ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work and pay costs of £510.

Jet2 also banned him from flying with them for 12 months.

Cameraman Jennifer Cleeve said: “You’re trapped in a tube in the sky and the safety of other passengers can be put at risk by just a relatively minor incident which can have catastrophic consequences that can be unforeseen.

“You told the probation officer you were completely depressed. No doubt you’ll also be upset about ruining your honeymoon.

“You were somewhat penalized by the airline, and you were also penalized for not being able to go on your honeymoon.”
