NEXT Batch 2020 Exam: The Union Health Ministry has constituted a 7-member committee to review the readiness of states and medical colleges to introduce the National Exit Test (NExT) for final year students of MBBS batch 2020. On July 13, 2023, the NMC postponed NExT for the batch MBBS 2019

In an order issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health said, “It has been decided to set up a committee with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya to examine the implementation and readiness for NExT,” The committee will examine the regulations to understand the changes proposed for NExT.

“The committee will examine the application of NExT as a final year, PG entrance and licensure examination and if there is a need to limit its application. It will examine the readiness of states, universities and medical schools to implement the proposed system for the 2020 batch and propose measures to prepare and give a plan to operationalize NExT for the 2020 batch or later,” the official said.

NEXT exam to be used for medical licensure and PG admission

The commission must submit its proposals within 2 weeks of its establishment. As per NMC’s NExT 2023 regulations, the exam will be conducted in 2 phases. NEXT Step 1 and Step 2 exams will be held twice a year.

According to the National Medical Commission, based on the NExT, medical graduates will be able to register to practice the modern system of medicine in India (working as a licensure exam). It will also determine the ranking and fulfillment of admission requirements for candidates who wish to pursue postgraduate medical education in the country.
