Nick Lachey reports for father duty while his wife and NCIS: Hawaii star Vanessa Lachey is far from home.
On Monday, the father-of-three, 50, shared a post on Instagram showing what a day in the life looks like for him and his children when Vanessa, 43, is off filming the TV series.
“On dad duty while V finishes shooting season 3 NCIS: Hawaiiso the kids and i went on our spring break trip and went to [San Diego Zoo]!” Nick wrote in the caption. “We were impressed and learned a lot about their conservation efforts, both locally and around the world. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend a family trip!!”
In the photos, the couple’s children can be seen feeding a camel and posing with an ant — and the 98 Degrees alum also snapped a close-up of the anteater.
Vanessa hit back in the comments section, calling her husband of more than 12 years a “super dad” for taking their kids to the zoo – and joked that she had “revenge” for Nick.
“Great dad!” she wrote in the comments. “I love you so much! And… revenge will pay off! 😏❤️.”
The couple, who married in 2011 after five years of dating, have three children – sons Camden (11) and Phoenix (7) and daughter Brooklyn (9).

The Love is blind co-hosts have been candid about parenting in the past. Just last week, Vanessa spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about the one rule she and Nick always try to follow when it comes to their kids.
“The one thing we’ve always agreed on is that we will always, always let our kids know how much we love them,” Vanessa told PEOPLE. “It sounds so simple, but I didn’t have that constant affirmation, physically and verbally, when I was younger.”

The mother of three children added that their rule is especially important when it comes to discipline.
“At some point, after the discipline has been established and they’ve had their moment, we’ll come over with love — whether it’s a loving touch or a loving conversation — to tell them why it was important and why it was a yes. ”
“I think it’s just about letting them know that they feel loved,” Vanessa added. “I mean, that’s all I wanted to know, that my mom and dad loved me, and that’s why we’ll always give it to them.”

Nick has been open about his love for their children. In the 2018 interview Us Weeklythe presenter revealed that as a dad, one of his “hardest” moments is when he is away from his children.
– I get up with the children every day – he said then. – So, when I’m on the road and I’m not there, it kills me.
