Nicola Walker talks close bond with Sarah Lancashire in heartwarming interview

Nicola Walker and Sarah Lancashire are both powerhouses when it comes to phenomenal British acting talent. Split the actress acted alongside him happy valley’leading lady in another favorite BBC drama, Last Tango in Halifaxand it’s clear that the couple have a very close relationship.

Nicola, who is also known and adored for her roles in such series Unforgotten and Annika and more, shared her admiration for Sarah in a heartfelt new interview shared during the National Television Awards.

The Spooks star appeared on screen in a pre-recorded VT celebrating Sara’s glittering career as she was presented with a Special Recognition Award during a ceremony held on Tuesday night. Nicola had a lot to say when it came to singing Sarah’s praises. “She broke my heart and made me laugh in equal measure on camera, on stage, in song, she can do it all,” she began.

In another clip, Nicola added: “As an audience, we knew her and that’s one of Sarah’s gifts to create a character that you feel so connected to, and that’s because she understands human nature.”

She continued: “You can laugh with her for a moment as a viewer and then she rips your heart out of your chest. She doesn’t care what you think of Sarah Lancashire. The ego is not there. For her, it’s all about telling the story.”

Nicola also had high praise for Happy Valley: “I think with Happy Valley, Sally and Sarah drew a line between them and said, ‘This is how good British television can be’. What I thought was wonderful was that they allowed us to keep her [Catherine Cawood] and in my imagination, she’s still out there somewhere.”

When asked if she would work with Sarah again, Nicola enthusiastically said: “I would love to work with just Sarah Lancashire, every day, all the time, I don’t know if anyone could arrange that! We are so lucky to have her.”

In the meantime, other recognizable faces from the world of acting appeared on the screen and admired Sara’s success. Happy Valley star James Norton said, “She somehow manages to bring truth and authenticity to every role she plays.”

James, who was nominated for playing criminal Tommy Lee Royce in the BBC drama, added; “What’s unique about her is her dexterity. She shows incredible skill at flipping coins, and Sarah does it beautifully.”

Sarah was clearly thrilled with her three wins during the NTA competition. First, she went on stage together with her colleague Happy valley the actors and creators won the award for the best drama after the series. Soon after, she picked up a dramatic performance award for her role as Catherine Cawood, and later picked up her own special mention.

Sarah told the audience: “Thank you so much for this. I loved every scene and every moment Happy valley. And I know I’ll never forget that, nor the brilliant people I worked with, the way the BBC supported us.”

“I have to say some things about Sally Wainwright because she is Happy valleyshe is what makes it, her writing is so extraordinary, her characters are extraordinary and anyone who receives those words is the luckiest actor in the world, really.”

Sarah continued and made sure to say hello to her fellow program members. “To James Norton, Siobhan Finneran who was my partner in crime for three years and is an amazing actress.” She ended by saying, “My family walks with me every step of the way and I’m incredibly lucky to have them in my life.”
