Nicole Scherzinger has broken her silence after a comment she made on social media sparked a backlash.
Scherzinger, 46, wrote a positive comment in response to Russell Brand’s Instagram post on Tuesday, November 5, the same day as the US presidential election. The singer is currently playing Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway.
In Brando’s post, he is holding a red hat that says “Make Jesus First Again” and is reminiscent of former president and now president-elect Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” baseball caps. Brand, 49, captioned the post, “God Bless America.”
On Thursday, November 7, social media users noticed Scherzinger’s song “Where do I get this hat? 🙏🏽❤️,” comment.
Social media users were quick to interpret the message as pro-MAGA. Others criticized her for her involvement with Brando, who in September 2023 was accused by five women of rape, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse. Brand denied the allegations.

The former Pussycat Doll singer posted a statement on her Instagram Stories on Friday night.
“I deeply apologize for the hurt I caused by my recent engagement in some social media posts. When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realizing that they could easily be interpreted as politically connected, and I apologize to anyone who understandably came to that conclusion,” she wrote in an Instagram Story on November 8.
“There are a lot of assumptions being made that don’t reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for,” she continued. “The many marginalized communities who feel hurt and worried about the results of the presidential election are the people I care about the most. I am with them, as always, throughout my life and career. If you know me, you know that.”
Nicole Scherzinger receives 6-minute standing ovation for triumphant Broadway opening performance Sunset Blvd.
“Like many others, in times of trouble and uncertainty, I turn to my faith. I believed that the posts I dealt with were about encouraging people to choose love and faith — ‘putting Jesus first’. For me, Christ embodies peace, compassion, hope and above all — unconditional love, especially for those who feel it least at the moment.”
She concluded: “I come from a place of love and I will always support the values that bring us together.” It is so important that we come together with compassion and love each other more than ever.”
