Niecy Nash-Betts ‘Would Like to Thank Me’ in Emmy Acceptance Speech: ‘I’m a Winner Baby!’

Niecy Nash-Betts gave a special shout out to herself at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

In the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, 2023, the nominees are also Welcome to Chippendales actresses Annaleigh Ashford and Juliette Lewis, Beefis Maria Bello, Fleishman is in troubleClaire Danes, Camila Morrone from Daisy Jones & The Six and Small beautiful things‘ Merritt Weaver. But Dahmer – the monster: the story of Jeffrey Dahmer the actress was first and began her speech by saying, “I’m a winning baby.”

“Thank the Almighty for this divine moment,” she shared. “Thank you Ryan Murphy for having me, Evan Peters, I love you. Netflix, every single person who voted for me, thank you. And my better half who picked me up when I was exhausted from this job. Thank you. And you know who I want to thank? I want to thank.”

“Because they believed in me and did what they said they couldn’t do,” she continued. “And I want to say to myself in front of all you beautiful people, “Go on girl with your bad self. You did it!”

She concluded her speech with a message to Black and Brown women, saying, “Finally, I accept this award on behalf of every Black and Brown woman that no one has heard of but is too policed. Like Glenda Cleveland, like Sandra Bland, like Breonna Taylor. As an artist, my job is to speak truth to power, and baby, I’ll do that until the day I die. Mom, I won!”

Nash-Betts, 53, received her fifth Emmy nomination for her role as Glenda Cleveland in the Netflix crime adaptation, following a string of other nominations in 2023. She previously took home the Critics Choice Award for the role, saying: “Thank you, Jessica . Thanks, Netflix. Baby, you picked me up when I was fed up with this job. Ryan Murphy, Evan Peters. And I share this award with Glenda Cleveland. In this night we are completely seen.”

Cleveland was a real-life neighbor of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and played a major role in recognizing the community’s tragedy.

Dahmer received some criticism for highlighting real-life players in a horrific story, but still broke Netflix’s viewership records, surpassing 1 billion hours watched on the streaming service in just 60 days.

Ashford was also nominated for her role as Irene Banerjee on Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales. The nomination was her first at the Emmys. In the 2022 drama, the 38-year-old actress played a woman who eventually became the owner of the Chippendales franchise.

Although she became famous on the silver screen, Ashford is also a theater star who just finished her role as Mrs. Lovett in a Broadway production Sweeney Todd.

Bello, 56, was nominated for her first Emmy for her role as Jordan Forester on the hit Netflix drama Beef.

“It was a really funny, surprising time,” she told Gold Derby of her nod. Her return to the big screen followed a Hollywood hiatus when she “re-evaluated” her place in the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

“I only wanted to work with people I like and trust, and that’s great writing and a great group of people. Boom,” she added. “I read a lot, but as soon as I read it [Lee Sun Jin’s] writing — such genius — I fell in love with it.”

With 10 previous Emmy nominations and three wins, the Danes are no strangers to television’s biggest night. IN Fleishman is in troubleA 2022 Hulu adaptation of the 2019 book of the same name, Danes starred as Rachel Fleishman, who upends her family by seemingly disappearing one ordinary day.

“It’s amazing when you come to a deeper understanding of who she is and why she is the way she is,” Danes, 44, said. The Hollywood Reporter about his character. “It is very effective. You suddenly feel complicit in some kind of system of overwhelming biases to think about women in a certain way, and it’s really disturbing.”

Lewis credits for playing Denise Coughlan in 2023 Welcome to Chippendales marks her second Emmy nomination.

The real-life series chronicled the history of the all-male stripping empire, with the 50-year-old actress portraying a dashing costume designer for work — though Denise was inspired by the concept of real customers, not a real person.

Morrone’s first Emmy nomination was for playing Camila Alvarez’s bandmate on Prime Video Daisy Jones & The Six.

The former model, 26, told earlier Daisy Jones star (and other 2023 nominee) Riley Keough on her decision to pursue acting in a chat for Interview magazine. “I’ve always been a bit of a ham and I grew up surrounded by people in the industry, so I always knew it was something I would end up doing. But I was also kind of in denial,” she explained. “I was even in denial to myself and pretending I wasn’t going to do it. Meanwhile, I knew it was all I ever wanted to do. But being born in LA, you’re so exposed to the industry at a young age that there’s a part of you that rebels against it before you inevitably dive into it.”

Weaver’s fourth Emmy nomination was for the role Little beautiful things’ Frankie Pierce, mother of the main character Clara (Kathryn Hahn). The role on the Hulu series required a certain kind of courage for Weaver, 43, who portrayed family tragedy and a close family bond. “I remember how I had to calm down and get stronger in the face of that kind of energy and love,” she said Diversity.
