A committee of seven members

The Mining Ministry has established a seven-member Commission. The committee was established under the chairmanship of the Joint Secretary (Policy) of the Ministry of Mines last November to determine the list of minerals considered important.

The commission not only listed important minerals, but also proposed the establishment of a Center of Excellence in Critical Minerals (CECM) within the Ministry of Mines. The agency will periodically update the list of important minerals for the country. The body will also announce key mineral strategies over and over again. What did the Minister of Coal and Mines say?

First, the Union Minister of Coal and Mines praised the efforts of the ministry and said it was the first time the country had established a comprehensive list of important minerals.

He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States and said the country had become the latest partner in the Minerals Security Partnership Agreement to strengthen vital mineral supply chains.

Later, the Minister also announced that the Geological Survey of India is now focusing more on the exploration of important and deep-rooted minerals.
