When John Larroquette reunited with Marsha Warfield in Bedpan revival the second season, it was a bittersweet experience.
In the season two finale, Roz (Warfield) married Loretta (Indira G. Wilson) in a courtroom ceremony, and Dan (Larroquette) walked Roz down the aisle and shared a sentimental hug.
During a recent visit Bedpan’with set, Larroquette, 76, spoke with PEOPLE about the opportunity to work with Warfield, 70, more than three decades after they starred together in the original Bedpan with a cast that included the late actors Charlie Robinson, Markie Post and Richard Moll.
“It was wonderful because she and I are still, as it were, the two standing soldiers from the original, because no one else is alive,” explains Larroquette. “To return to her, she reached into the past of this series, and again brought it to the center of the present time. … And she’ll be back, so we’ll have her a few times, hopefully.”

“To have Marsha by my side, who I can turn to and go, ‘Oh, do you remember when?'” he continues. “Here, 35 years ago, there is no one else like that. Whenever that was.”
Night Judicial season three picks up where season two left off, Larroquette hinted, exploring whether Dan is actually the father of Abby’s boyfriend Jake (Ryan Hansen). The series will also feature Christine Sullivan’s (Markie Post) on-screen sister, played by Gigi Rice, and Wendie Malick becomes a series regular, reprising her character Julianne and joining the likes of Larroquette, Melissa Rauch, Lacrette and Nyambi Nyambi.
For Larroquette, revisiting his beloved character more than 30 years after the original Bedpan he went into the air a mixture of feelings surfaced. The revival was filmed on stage at 10 Warner Bros.’ studio in Los Angeles, right across the street from where the first series was shot. There are even a few items from the set of the original series, including a leather couch and an armadillo statue in Abby’s office.
“There’s so much history on this set for me,” he explains. “Obviously it was melancholy, partly because it’s … it’s a bit of a ghost town, as it were. But then to see new people to work with, it revitalizes the series and the relationships.”

Larroquette still often thinks about his former co-stars from the first series, including Charlie Robinson and Markie Post, who both died in 2021, and then Richard Moll last October.
“It was sad to know that the people I loved and worked with all those years left, and it was joyful to know that a whole other group of people who are new to it, who loved the series, are coming,” he explains.
BedpanThe show’s writers are taking it episode-by-episode rather than thinking about her character long-term, but Larroquette hopes Dan will open her heart to the possibility of love again “a little bit.”
“Abby brings the humanity out of him again,” he explains. “So I think the only goal I have with him — to be funny — is to see him continue to be a little grumpy and open his heart a little bit.”
