- In an interview, he shared his story of struggle, saying,
The film industry is not my life, it is part of my life. My friends are all outside the industry. The three years from 1999 to 2001 were the most difficult three years for me. I’m actually sitting at home and no check is coming in. I couldn’t tell my parents that I didn’t have a job. But I would purposely go out at 10 a.m. every day, saying I was going to work, and not come back until 10 p.m. In fact, I would go to Luya Academy and hang out with my friends. If a friend buys me some tea, I will drink the tea, if someone pays for it, I will eat the food, otherwise sometimes not even drink, but I don’t take money from home to buy food. I have a friend Vinayak Kotian who owns an Udupi restaurant in Matunga. During those three years, he would give me 50 rupees every day without ever asking for it.
