Raj Subramaniam is an Indian-American businessman. He is an IIT gold medalist and currently President, CEO and Director of FedEx Corporation. He runs the US-based conglomerate with annual revenues of $92 billion and a global team of more than 600,000 people.

Raj Subramaniam was born on Thursday, September 14, 1967, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India (54 years old as of 2021). He studied at Loyola School in Thiruvananthapuram till class tenth. He was a top ICSE player and moved to Bombay (now Mumbai) at the age of 15. There he passed his 12th examination of the SIES Institutional Group. Later, he joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1987. He became an IIT gold medalist and graduated from IIT Bombay in 1987. Then he went to Syracuse University in New York to pursue a Master of Science degree. He received his PhD in chemical engineering, completing his studies in 1989. After completing his master’s degree, he decided to pursue an MBA in Marketing/Finance at the University of Texas at Austin, which he completed in 1991.

Raj Subramaniam joined FedEx nearly 30 years ago. He joined FedEx in 1991 after completing his MBA as a marketing analyst in Memphis. His hard work and dedication led to him being appointed Vice President of Marketing, Asia Pacific in September 1996, a position he held until September 2003. In September 2003, he was offered the position of Vice President of Marketing, Asia Pacific. Promoted to President of Canada Region. He held the position for two years and nine months before being promoted to senior vice president. In February 2013, he served as executive vice president of marketing and communications and was promoted to president and chief executive officer of FedEx in January 2019. In March 2019, he was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx Corporation. In 2020, he joined the company’s board of directors. He served the company for 30 years, launching transformation initiatives, growing the company’s e-commerce business and reinstating the company’s operational strategy for digital transformation. After all these developments, he was finally elected as CEO of FedEx in March 2022. He was elected after the company’s founder, chairman and chief executive officer, Frederick W. Taking over as CEO from Frederick, Raj Subramaniam is responsible for providing strategic direction for all FedEx operating companies, including FedEx Ground, FedEx Services, FedEx Express, FedEx Office, FedEx Freight, FedEx Dataworks and FedEx Logistics. He is also a member of the FedEx Executive Committee and is responsible for planning and executing the company’s strategic business activities.
