Nithyananda was born as Arunachalam Rajasekaran in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. His true age has been controversial. He was noticed by Yogiraj Yogananda Puri at the age of three and claimed to have had a spiritual experience at the age of twelve. At the age of 22, he achieved enlightenment. When he was seventeen, he wandered for eight years before settling in Bangalore. Mahavatar Babaji named him Nithyananda and began his public life with this name at the age of 24. In 2003, he established his own ashram called Dhyanapeetam in Bidadi, Bangalore. In 2012, Nithyananda’s name was listed among the “100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People” by Watkins Mind Body Spirit Magazine. In February 2013, he was conferred the title of Mahamandaleshwar during the Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara ceremony. Some sources reveal that he served as president of the American Hindu University in Florida. The religious organization he founded, Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, has contributed to various temples, gurukuls and monasteries in many countries. It also hosts cultural events in the United States and India. His organization has earned two records – a Guinness World Record for one of the largest rope yoga classes, and a Guinness World Record for the largest pole yoga class. Nityananda studied various scriptures, including the Brahma Sutras, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Shiva Sutras, and the Bhagavad Gita. According to some reports, he made many unbelievable claims. Once, he claimed he delayed sunrise by 40 minutes because he couldn’t get to an event on time. He said he could make cows, horses and monkeys speak Tamil and Sanskrit. He also said that he could prove that the mass-energy equivalent formula E=mc2 was wrong. At some events, he claims to specialize in over 60 powers, including Kundalini and Third Eye Awakening. He also claimed to have had experiences with paranormal activity. According to him, he can open anyone’s third eye and people can use it to see through walls and smoke. He also suggested opening the third eye for blind children. His claims were challenged by skeptic Narendra Nayak. He claims that he and his followers can engage in activities such as extrasensory perception, materialization, body scanning, increased height, remote viewing, and finding lost objects. Nithyananda published more than 500 books based on his teachings. The books are written in 27 languages.

Actress Ranjitha’s controversial video
In 2010, Tamil television channel Sun TV aired a video of Nithyananda in a hotel room with his follower, Tamil actress Ranjita. The video was allegedly morphed by Nithyananda and Ranjitha, who also accused Sun TV of extortion. The video was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Bengaluru, which claimed that the people in the video were Nityananda and Ranjitha. Later, after Ranjitha filed a complaint against Sun TV in the Karnataka High Court, the channels apologized to her for violating her privacy.
Rape allegation against Nithyananda
In 2010, Nithyananda was accused of raping a missionary girl from the United States. The girl alleged that Nithyananda raped her for five consecutive years in India and the United States. She lodged complaints against him and five other accused with the Ann Arbor Police and the Karnataka Police, but no investigation was conducted against him. On February 19, 2018, the Ramanagara Third Additional District Court started investigation into the case, but on May 16, 2018, they were released. The case was later brought to the Supreme Court of India and he was acquitted on June 1, 2018 due to lack of evidence. A complaint was registered against him in the Ramanagara court on June 4, 2018, and a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him in August 2022 by the Third Additional District and Sessions Court in Ramanagara. 2021 Nithyananda was appointed Madurai Adnan after the death of Madurai Adnan Arugirinatha Desika Paramacharya Swamigal in August The 293rd Pope. Accused of kidnapping girl
In 2019, Nityananda was accused of taking two girls to his ashram in Ahmedabad without their parents’ permission. The couple from Tamil Nadu approached the Gujarat High Court seeking the return of their children. On November 17, 2019, the Gujarat police filed kidnapping charges against him. The girls claimed their father’s complaint was false and said they were not forcibly removed. The girls further added that their father made such a complaint because he was accused in a corruption case.

In 2021, two children aged 8 and 9 alleged that they were taken to a monastery and tortured there. They added that they were locked in the apartment for ten days and forced to work there. After the complaint, he left India but the other two accused were arrested by the police. The principal of Delhi Public School near Ahmedabad was also arrested for allowing Nityananda to set up an ashram in the school.
Accused of dating a woman
In 2010, a woman named Aarti Rao claimed that she dated Nithyananda for five years. He clarified the accusation in an interview, saying:
She was never a resident of my organization. Even if she and I were having an affair, how could she hide it from her husband or her parents? Her parents lived in my convent and she stayed with them whenever she visited. “
He also said Aarti wanted him to cure her of the sexually transmitted disease.
