Noah Kahan Says the 2024 Grammys Were a 'Privilege of a Lifetime' and Celebrates Victoria Monét's Win in Sweet Note

The folk star reflected on her weekend at the 66th Grammy Awards and her Best New Artist nomination in an Instagram post on Monday

Noah Kahan has had a few days to process his whirlwind weekend at the Grammys, and he’s feeling grateful.

The rising folk star, 27, took to Instagram on Tuesday to reflect on Sunday’s 2024 Grammy Awards and how honored he was to be nominated for Best New Artist. Kahan shared a thoughtful, lengthy message to fans along with a series of photos from the weekend in Los Angeles for the ceremony. He posted a series of photos of himself getting ready, including a fun one of him jumping on the bed of his hotel room, one smiling next to his friends and his mother, Laura Berkenkamp, ​​who was his companion at the awards, and posing with besties new artist nominees Gracie Abrams and Jelly Roll, among others.

After he joked that the amount of hairspray he used made it hard for him to “catch [his] breath long enough to understand [he] experienced” at the Grammy Awards, he opened up about how significant it felt to receive the award.

“It was the privilege of a lifetime to be there, to be a part of it,” the “She Calls Me Back” singer wrote. “Feeling worthy of something so big has been a real challenge, but with all your support and the support of my team and my loved ones, I feel my confidence has grown and I’m finally proud of myself.”

Kahan then sweetly greeted Best New Artist winner Monét, 34. “I’m so proud and excited because Victoria Monét deserved to win and you could tell how much it meant to her,” he said. “That’s all you can hope for for someone else; watching them live their dreams just to remind themselves that dreams do come true and that magic does exist.”

Kahan also shared a thoughtful note to the other artists in the running for Best New Artist, including Abrams, Fred Again…, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones and The War and Treaty: “To Victoria and my other fellow nominees, you you are MAGIC. Each of you has earned it and you manage your lives and careers with such grace.”

The musician went on to write candidly about how positive he sees the experience, despite not taking home a record player. Kahan said: “If you know me, you know I’m very competitive and so of course it hurts to lose an award or feel like I’ve failed in some way. The truth is that it was not a failure. It was a celebration.”

Kahan added: “It was a celebration of what we’ve achieved together, of all the good times we’ve shared this year. It was a postage stamp and a ribbon put on this absolute gift of travel.”

Besides thanking his team and fans for cheering him on leading up to the Grammys and “over these last 8 years,” he ended his message on an encouraging note: “One day we’ll be back, and I know you’ll still be there for me.”

Before Kahan spilled all of his thoughts in an Instagram post on Tuesday, he shared a short note on his Instagram Story on Monday thanking fans for their support on social media and offering a “HUGE congrats” to the “On My Mama” artist.

His friend and collaborator Zach Bryan, who he worked with on the country star’s 2023 song “Sarah’s Place,” also shared a post on Xu (formerly Twitter) showing support after losing Best New Artist. “Noah Kahan robbed,” he announced shortly after the awards show on Sunday.

Monét won the prestigious award for Best New Artist, as well as Best R&B Album, at the Grammys following her efforts with her groundbreaking studio debut Jaguar II. The rising artist, who over the years has gone on to write songs for stars such as Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Fifth Harmony, spoke of how “the award was a 15-year quest” in her acceptance speech.

Kahan’s best nod to a new artist was his first Grammy nomination, following a huge last two years in which he achieved massive success with the release of his third studio album, Stick Season 2022.

This year, the American artist embarks on his biggest tour yet. He will soon head to the UK and Europe for a series of concerts, before hitting the road across North America for 32 dates, including his first headlining stadium shows, from March to July.
