In 2008, he started working out and later became a professional bodybuilder. He started competing in IFBB bodybuilding competitions in 2018, including the 2019 iCandy Classic Pretoria. He later became an IFBB heavyweight bodybuilder.

Injuries and surgeries
As of July 2023, he has undergone three surgeries. His first surgery was to treat a torn bicep. In June 2021, he revealed that he suffers from obstructive sleep apnea, which is caused by a deviated nasal septum. He underwent nose surgery, which relieved his sleep disorder. In June 2023, he underwent a third surgery to treat diastasis recti, a tear between the abdominal walls; he had a 2.5-inch gap between his abdomens.

- On July 1, 2023, he revealed on Instagram that his friend and fellow bodybuilder Jo Lindner passed away on June 30, 2023. The news caused a stir among Joe’s fans, who wrote several tribute messages on his post.
