Noel Hanna’s Career
Noel was a climber from Dromara in County Down. He was the creator of the Spartan race. His 10 ascents of Mount Everest were the highest of his career and many people congratulated him on his achievements.
He was a certified exercise and fitness instructor by the Training Institute of Northern Ireland. In 1997, he took first place in the 100-mile Himalayan stage race.
He successfully completed the ascent and descent of K2 in 2018, becoming the first person from the island of Ireland to do so. He was even listed in the Guinness Book of Records. In 2021 he conquered Everest for the tenth time.
Death of Noel Hanna
On April 17, 2023, Noel reached the 8,091-meter summit of Annapurna in western Nepal, but died the following night at Camp IV after returning from the summit. The climber died, according to climbing authorities, while descending from the summit of the world’s 10th highest peak.
Hanna has reportedly scaled the highest peaks on all seven continents and Mount Everest ten times during her illustrious climbing career, according to CBS News. He completed an ascent of Everest in 2006, cycling for two weeks from base camp to the eastern coast of India. He was the first Irishman, according to the BBC, to successfully climb and descend K2, the second highest mountain in the world, in 2018.
However, Annapurna is considered particularly dangerous due to its avalanche-prone terrain. Accomplished mountaineer Baljeet Kaur, 28, had to be rescued from the summit on Tuesday after falling ill while descending, The Guardian reports.
Anurag Maloo, another climber, slipped into the crevasse on Monday and is still missing. Irene Hunter, Hannah’s sister, told BBC News NI’s Evening Extra that her brother “loved the view and just loved the people.”
