Noel Tata is an Indian businessman with Irish citizenship. He is currently the Chairman of Trent Tata Investments and Vice Chairman of Titan Corporation. He is also the former managing director of Tata International, a position he resigned from in 2021.

He began his career working with Tata International, the Tata Group’s entity that provides products and services overseas. In 1999, he became the Managing Director of Trent, the Tata International retail vertical founded by his mother. At that time, Trent had just acquired Littlewoods International (department store) and changed its name to Westside. Noel devoted himself to the development of Westside and quickly turned it into a profitable enterprise. Under his leadership, Trent’s market capitalization rose to Rs. From 36 billion rupees in 2014 to 400 billion rupees in 2021. He was also appointed as a director of Titan Industries and Voltas in 2003. From 2010 to 2011, he became the Managing Director of Tata International. At the time, the company was responsible for the US$70 billion Tata Group’s overseas operations. He was also praised for his work for Voltas, which has doubled its market valuation from Rs. 18,000 and above Rs 40,000. In 2019, he was nominated as a trustee of the Tata Trusts and currently he is a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the United Trust Company, which controls Tata Sons. Noel Tata will remain in the executive role until November 2021, resigning after turning 65. He currently holds various non-executive positions within the TATA Group. These include serving as Chairman of Trent, Voltas, Tata International, Tata Investments and Vice Chairman of Titan.

Speculators believe he will be the successor to the Tata Group after Ratan Tata. But in 2011, Noel’s brother-in-law Cyrus Mistry was announced as Ratan Tata’s successor. However, in 2016, Cyrus was ousted and Ratan Tata took over as chairman. He served in this position for four months before finally resigning in February 2017.
