Notre Dame Quarterback Couldn't Wait to Find His Girlfriend After Orange Bowl Win for an Adorable Reason

Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard raised the scoring charts for the boys following his team’s Jan. 9 Orange Bowl win.

During a postgame interview with SiriusXM’s Alyssa Lang, Leonard, 22, said he was looking for his girlfriend, Molly Walding, to give her a special souvenir from Notre Dame’s 27-24 win over Penn State — which ensured Leonard and his team spot in the Jan. 20 college football national championship playoff game.

Holding four oranges in his hand during the interview, Leonard told Lang, “I’m looking for my girlfriend, I hope I can give her one. She likes oranges!”

Lang asked the defense if Walding was going to eat the orange or keep it as a souvenir for a while, Leonard said, “That’s a good question. . . . I don’t know.”

Walding, an Auburn student, was in attendance at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium to cheer on her boyfriend at the big game, wearing a custom denim jacket with Leonard’s name emblazoned on the back.

Notre Dame’s victory came down to the final moments of the game and a great second-half performance from Leonard, who entered the concussion protocol after taking a hard hit in the first half but was able to return.

Qualback credited his teammates for keeping him motivated in the second half. “You know, whenever I go down, they’re the first ones to come up to me and say they believe in me and that means everything in the world to me,” he said.
