The National Women’s Football League will pay the players of $ 5 million in restitution in a settlement from years of alleged abuse, announced the league on Wednesday, February 5th.
“For too long, diligent and talented women of the National Women’s Football League were forced to withstand the unacceptable culture of abuse, harassment and retaliation,” said New York Lawyer Leatitia James, in a statement published by NWSL player association. “This settlement sends a clear message that such an inconsistent behavior will not be tolerated and ensures that the players receive the fee and protection they deserve.”
According to the settlement, New York, Illinois and District of Columbia, lawyers have discovered that NWSL “is imbued with the culture of inappropriate and violent behavior, including sexual harassment and harassment and discrimination based on gender, race and sexual orientation.”

After Riley’s shooting, NWSL Commissioner Lisa Baird resigned and later left her position at the US Director Football Committee.
In 2022, an independent investigation into charges of violent behavior and sexual abuse in professional women’s football was launched.
The US Football Federation has announced a 319 -page report, just over a year after holding on former acting lawyer Sally Q. Yates to investigate the National Women’s Football League.
The report included previously undiscovered charges against former Louisville FC race coach Christy Holly.
Yates’ investigation included more than 200 interviews with over 100 former and current NWSL national team players in the US Women’s Team, as well as over 89,000 documents “Most likely to be relevant”, along with the reports from the telephone number of Hotline and E -Star addresses which are set for anonymous comments.
