Ten teams participate in the World Cup tournament. All these teams will play each other once in a total of 45 league matches. The team that wins the match gets 2 points on the points table and the losing team gets none. Of those 10, only four will advance to the two semi-finals.

India and England squared off in the 29th match of the World Cup, where many records were broken and created. India were restricted to 229/9 in 50 overs. England started well and seemed destined to win, but the Indian bowlers turned the tide of the game in just a few overs. From 30-0, England went to 33-0 in the space of 4 overs. In the end, India won by 100 runs. With this win, India moved to the top of the points table, while England remained at the bottom and were effectively kicked out of the tournament.
