Schools closed in Odisha: The state government has announced closure of schools from October 20 to 29, 2023 due to the upcoming Durga Pooja. Also, schools in Odisha will also remain closed today due to Mahalaya. Parents and students can contact school authorities regarding closures and reopenings.

According to media reports, the Department of School and Mass Education has issued a notification asking district education officers and block education officers to take action in this regard.

Board of Secondary Education and Board of Primary Education have issued a notification to close school in Odisha from October 20 to 29, 2023 for Durga Puja. Schools will now reopen on October 30, 2023.

Odisha schools closed: What is Mahalaya and how is it celebrated?

Mahalayn marks the beginning of Durja Puja. Therefore, it is considered to be an auspicious day. Several states, notably Bengal, Odisha, Assam and Tripura, celebrate this beginning by performing rituals to Goddess Durga.

All devotees participate in the celebrations on this day which include prayers, bathing in the Ganges and cultural events. On the last day of Pitru Paksha, Mahalaya falls, marking the beginning of Debi Paksha (the age of the Goddess). Goddess Durga will arrive soon, he indicates.

The ninth day of Navratri, known as Dussehra, falls on October 24, 2023, marking the conclusion of the festival. Navratri begins on October 15, 2023.

Apart from Odisha school holidays 2023, Telangana schools and colleges will remain closed for more than 10 days due to Dasara 2023. The state government has announced closure of government and private schools, colleges, banks and other organizations as Dasara is one of the important events in Telangana.
