Olivia Plath looks back at the year 2023.
The Welcome to Plathville The 25-year-old star reflected on the highs and lows of the past year, including the loss of her 15-year-old brother Micah Meggs and her divorce from Ethan Plath, in an emotional Instagram post shared ahead of 2024.
“2023 was the right year,” Olivia wrote. “A while ago I wasn’t sure how this year would feel in retrospect because getting divorced, tragically losing a younger brother and questioning everything you know as you start over in life is a lot that happened in a short amount of time.”
“But the honest truth is that I am very grateful for this year. It was a challenge for me, it shook me, gave me time to grieve and gave me space to gain confidence,” she continued.
Olivia then thanked all the “people and animals” – alluding to her pet hedgehog she re-homed earlier this year – saying they were “honestly the best parts of my year.” She also noted that while she felt like she had “grown up like this,” she also “gained a bit of youth and childlike wonder and joy.”

“My mind was questioning… a lot. And despite everything, or maybe because of everything, my soul feels so lively, curious, peaceful and at home with itself. 🫂,” Olivia continued.
“These photos may not look super glamorous, but they were all moments that breathed life into me. So, get ready for 2024 because whatever happens, it’s going to be the best year yet. 🥹🩵”, she concluded the post.

One of the biggest difficulties Olivia had to overcome this year was the divorce from her marriage to Ethan (25). The couple, who married in October 2018 when they were both just 20, struggled to see eye-to-eye on several important matters and publicly announced their split in October.
During the finale of TLC Welcome to Plathville that aired earlier this month, Olivia and Ethan discussed whether their marriage should continue and came to the conclusion that it should end.

“One of the biggest things that could be done on your end to make this work would be to go back and try to repair your relationships with your family and try to get back to some of the roots and values that were instilled in you and how you grew up,” Ethan told Olivia. , who grew up in a fundamentalist Christian home and has been talking about her negative experiences in recent years.
“I feel like I have to draw a line in the sand and say that this is the absolute limit that my personal beliefs will let me go to where you are right now… There are just things that are wrong with the kids that I’m raising as I grow up to think and believe. For me, it’s a matter of principle,” he added later.
“I’m the child of two people whose principles are more important than their relationship with their daughter, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to do it again,” a tearful Olivia said on the show. “So yes, it hurts me to feel like I was committed to this relationship and I feel like you made the decision not to be together. But I support the choice and I think it’s the right move for what we both want our future to look like.”
“I love you as a person,” she added. “I don’t think we’re the right romantic partners for each other, but I still love you and I still want the best for you. No one can say we didn’t try.”
Earlier this year, Olivia also dealt with the loss of her brother, who was hit by a car while riding an electric bike in Franklin County, Virginia in May, according to a local newspaper Roanoke Times.
