Olivia Rodrigo Has ‘Grown Out’ of Certain Sour Album Tracks: ‘Some of Them I Don’t Really Love So Much Anymore’

Olivia Rodrigo doesn’t feel so angry anymore.

In a new interview with Los Angeles TimesThe “Vampire” singer revealed that she’s no longer a big fan of certain songs from her 2021 debut album. sour.

“Some of them I don’t really like that much anymore,” 20-year-old Rodrigo told the newspaper. “I just feel like I’ve outgrown some of them.”

However, the Grammy winner chose not to name which songs from the chart-topping album she no longer loves. “Oh, I don’t want to tell you that,” she said. “People get really sad because it’s going to be their favorite song.”

One song that Rodrigo is still very fond of is “Drivers Licence”, the lead single sour and her first hit no. 1 on Board Hot 100.

“I remember playing the song, still heartbroken, and people would come up to me and say, ‘Wow, this takes me back to my first heartbreak,'” she explained. “Now, I listen to it and I totally get it. It actually takes me back to when I thought I’d never love anyone else. I’m like, Awwww – That is so sweet.”

The “Get Him Back” singer credits her close collaborator Dan Nigro for pushing her out of her comfort zone to create her sophomore album Intestinespublished earlier this year.

Sometimes I think if it wasn’t for him I would be writing sad piano ballads forever, said Rodrigo.

For a singer-songwriter, Intestines it signifies both artistic and literary growth. “That was an idea I explored a lot on this album – that the girl singing ‘Bad Idea Right?’ is completely different from the girl who sings ‘Logical,'” she explained.

Rodrigo continued: “This time, I wasn’t 17, going through my first heartbreak, crying at the piano, and the song just came out. I had to sharpen my songwriting and singing skills. It felt like a different creative experience.”

The progress she made Intestines it paid off as the album became her second at the top Board 200 and spawned her third No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “Vampire.” Last month, she also earned six nominations for the upcoming 2024 Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Vampire,” Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Intestines and Best Rock Song for “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl.”

Rodrigo spoke with PEOPLE about the nominations at The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes premiered in Los Angeles last month. “It’s just such an honor and such a pleasure to be recognized by the music community in such an amazing way,” she said at the time. “I’m very grateful.”
