Olivia Rodrigo may be influenced by 2000s pop-rock and 90s alternative, but it turns out she can do folk too!
The 20-year-old pop star appeared on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on Monday, and in addition to performing her songs “Driver’s License,” “Get Him Back!” and “Vampire”, “Stick Season” was also covered by rising artist Noah Kahan, 26.
The “All-American Bitch” singer and her all-female band slowed down the popular song from the Vermont singer-songwriter’s 2022 album of the same name. While Rodrigo didn’t adopt her signature sound, her cover kept the original Americana tone, as she was joined by two acoustic guitars and electric mandolin.
Especially in the emotionally powerful chorus, the Grammy winner highlighted her folk range by strongly emphasizing certain words and phrases.

Kahan himself was delighted with the cover. In response, the “Dial Drunk” singer shared a TikTok showing a split screen of Rodrigo’s performance and a video of himself listening to it. Over a clip of her swinging, he wrote: “Olivia covering the season? Now her song.”
“I would give her my entire discography,” the folk star joked in the description. “Olivia, thank you so much.”

Rodrigo is no stranger to performing stunning covers. Just last week, the superstar joined Sheryl Crow for a sweet duet of the folk-pop icon “If It Makes You Happy” on stage at The Bluebird Café in Nashville.
In 2022, she also paid tribute to Carly Simon when the pop-rock legend was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by performing her classic “You’re So Vain.”
On tour and during festival appearances, the 20-year-old rock star also impressed with her interpretations of songs from Avril Lavigne to No Doubt. Lily Allen even joined her at Glastonbury 2022 to perform her hit “F— You” and Alanis Morrisette came out to sing with her on the station sour tour in May 2022.

“Bad idea, isn’t it?” the singer released her second album INTESTINES in September and opened up to PEOPLE about some of the inspiration behind it.
“I think there are so many expectations of women — you should always be grateful, calm, graceful and composed,” she said. “Growing up, I really struggled with all these feelings that I felt like I couldn’t externalize and this expectation that I wanted to be such a good girl.”
She added: “I don’t think I can really write a song and pander. Good songs don’t come out of me writing to please other people. All my best songs come from me wanting to express something for myself and wanting to process a feeling just for myself.”
