The 33-year-old former Years & Years singer received zero points in the public vote.

His effort at the Malmo Arena in Sweden on Saturday earned just 46 points from the judges.

The Swiss group Nemo took first place in the ranking of the best and became the winner of the competition in 2024.

Nemo won the 68th Eurovision Song Contest with The Code, an operatic ode to the singer’s journey towards accepting his non-gender identity.

Friendly Olly congratulated his Eurovision rival who finally returned to social media on Sunday afternoon.

The star shared a photo of Nemo and wrote above it: “Nemo!!!! You did it!!

“I am so proud of you it was such an honor to be on this journey with you. You broke the code!!!”

Olly was disappointing on 18th with his song Dizzy, which involved a group of dancers kissing on stage and dancing topless around him.

“I enjoyed every minute of it,” his proud dad David Thornton told the BBC last night after the performance.

“It’s just another step to wherever it goes next.”

Return

The It’s A Sin artist and actor also faced criticism for his “weak” and “uncontrollable” vocals.

UK viewers noted that the sound quality was not up to his usual level, with some speculating that it had been “sabotaged”.

At one point Olly was seen touching his handset – after viewers complained about glitches in the sound earlier in the night.

“Great performance but terrible sound production. #Eurovision #UK,” wrote one.

“Hmm why is the sound different for #ollyalexander #uk? #Eurovision2024 #eurovision,” added another.

Another said: “What’s wrong with the sound, suddenly #EUROVISION is sabotage.”

Despite the technical problems, commentator Graham Norton said it was one of the best stage sets the UK had ever had.
