Olympian Kendall Coyne Schofield Shares the Secret to Being ‘the Best Version of Yourself’

Kendall Coyne Schofield is the boss at the rink and turn it off, and the Olympic gold medalist knows that success starts in your head.

The professional women’s hockey league player, who is also a new mom and president of the PWHL players’ union, teamed up with elf Cosmetics and PEOPLE to give a pep talk about being confident and ready to pounce.

“For me it’s important to be where your feet are, to be in the present moment, to control what you can control, and there are two things I focus on every day.”

According to the three-time Olympian, it’s her work ethic and her attitude.

“I realized that my mindset was key to my success,” she says, sitting next to an assortment of elf Cosmetics products — fitting, since the brand is supporting the league in its inaugural season.

Coyne Schofield then walks viewers through her daily routine with some of her favorite Elf items, starting with Power Grip Primer and Liquid Putty Poreless Primer.

Next, the hockey star dished on her go-to from the beauty line, which is “absolutely Glow Reviver Lip Oil.”

“I love clear. I use it every day. I think it doesn’t matter what the occasion is, you can always have a good gloss on your lips,” she says.

“I hope you enjoyed my pep talk, that you are inspired and that you are confident that you are the best version of yourself!” she concludes.

Coyne Schofield knows a thing or two about being prepared for anything as a member of the inaugural women’s professional hockey league team. She was on the road with her young son after husband Michael Schofield was drafted by the Detroit Lions, who finished in the NFL playoffs. But all the challenges were worth it to inspire the kids to follow their dreams, she says — going back to that mindset she talked about in her Pep Talk video.

“For young boys and girls to grow up and say women can play professional hockey and men can play professional hockey. Knowing that, seeing that, believing that, is incredibly important and that’s all,” Coyne Schofield told PEOPLE in January. “And I think this league shows that.”
